Katarina Witt

  German former figure skater Katarina Witt is German. Witt is two-time Olympic champion and is widely acknowledged as one of the best female singles figure skating athletes ever.



 



 Witt won her first Olympic gold medal for East Germany in 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. Then she won a second one at 1988 Calgary Olympics. She is among only two women who have defended one singles Olympic women's title. The other being Sonja Henie of Norway. Witt was four times World Champion (1985-1987, 1988) as well as a twice World silver medalist (1982-1986) She won six consecutive European Championships (1983-1988), an achievement that was only matched by Sonja Henie, a female figure skater. Witt was one of the most accomplished figure skaters in 1984 and 1988. She won 10 gold medals at eleven major international events.
